Born in Boston, the son of the late Salvatore and Santa Giorlando, he was raised in Boston's North End where he lived until moving to Waltham 39 years ago.
An accomplished furniture restorer, he worked with various furniture companies throughout the metropolitan Boston area. He also ran his own furniture store, Yarno's, for a brief time in Waltham.
Mr. Giorlando was a veteran of World War II, and served as a private first class in Company A of the Army's 35th Tank Battalion, fighting in the Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland. He received the Army Occupation Medal, Europe Africa Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the John F. Sullivan V.F.W. Post in Waltham.
An avid reader, he enjoyed history and architecture, photography, horseback riding and outdoor activities.
He was a member of the St. Agrippina's Society of the North End.
