Tony Giordano '95 is a Captain in the U.S. Army.He is a UH-60 Black Hawk pilot.Tony joined the Army the same day he graduated from Cal Poly, on June 12, 1999.He went to flight school at Ft. Rucker, Ala., then moved to Ft. Drum, N.Y.He started as a platoon leader for two years in an air assault company (15 UH-60s).While there, Tony did a lot of training with the two infantry brigades stationed there.He also did some training for West Point in August 2001.On September 11, his unit was put on 24-hour alert for three weeks because they were so close to New York City.His unit never had to fly to NYC but did transport numerous infantry troops to protect other sites in case of another terrorist attack.
Tony then continued his military career by traveling to Korea, 20 miles north of Seoul, for the whole year of 2003.During this time, Tony's wife had to stay in New York.Again flying and training with the infantry, his unit's main mission was to fly the infantry to where they needed to go.
Tony now lives in Germany, about an hour from Frankfurt,where he loves the German life.His job in Germany is moreadministrative; he rarely flies but rather plans for and supports those who do.
Tony has not gone to Iraq but will be leaving in early spring for Afghanistan for a one-year tour.Tony says, "The military has been good to me so far.
