VINELAND -- After years of laying groundwork for the school district, Frank Giordano said he is asking voters for three more years to see things through to completion.
A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Giordano said he never wants to settle for second-best.
"I like to deal with things immediately," said Giordano, who seeks re-election Tuesday in a six-way race for three school board seats.
Giordano admits that is sometimes difficult when dealing with the state Department of Education.
"The budget is a continual game that you are playing with the DOE where you don't have the current budget approved and you are asked to submit another one," he said.
He noted school construction is now well on the way, with an elementary and two middle schools in the planning stages. That's in addition to the center-city school demonstration project the city won, an effort in which Giordano worked with Mayor Perry Barse.

Now the district must focus its attention on ensuring safe and secure schools, Giordano said.
"That's got to be on everyone's mind, especially in light of the reporting of the incidents that have happened thus far in this school year," he said.
"We can never sit back and be complacent and say we are OK, we have security guards, we have the security cameras -- we are always trying to think ahead."
He added the board is now considering card swipes for staff and students to enter buildings.
"You have to put parents' minds at ease," he said.
