Sally GilliesAssistent Expedition Leader/Geologist
Sally began life as a geologist, sweeping the desert for microscopic gold with her dustpan and brush in the Australian outback. After several years fossicking in the Western Australian for gold, platinum, nickel and copper, a change was needed so she headed to the polar reaches of northern Quebec to do a masters thesis.Upon completion of her thesis, Sally headed for the ski slopes of the US Rocky Mountains and proceeded to spend several summers mountain hiking (,field exploration for gold and diamonds') and several winters skiing (,completing geological resource valuations').Changing circumstances saw her leave the US and head briefly back to the winter mines of northern Quebec before plunging deep into the steaming jungles of Venezuela. After a year, Sally changed focus again and headed for Chile to look for gold-copper deposits in the spectacular altiplano.Recently, she has been working in Russia in deposits that are so raw, you can actually see the gold.Cruising in the Antarctic Peninsula, Arctic and South America has rounded out Sally's experience on the continents, with only the uncharitable but ,seriously interesting' depths of the ocean remaining unconquered. All this travelling and exploring in the disguise of a geologist combined with an avid curiosity in most things scientific means Sally will be able to answer your questions about the spectacular landscape, climate change and (most importantly) where to go for decent chocolate
