That information comes from Randy Gillies, vice-chairperson of the CFL board of governors. The league took over the franchise from Schwarz last week when he couldn't meet his financial obligations.
Technically, that makes the board of governors the new owner of the Argos.
"The league will obviously look at all their options and their possibilities," said Gillies."But there has not been, at least at the board of governors level, hard discussion around London."
Maybe there wasn't any 'hard discussion,' but there had to be some discussion, right?
"No, not really, not any discussion," said Gillies.
How's that for being doused with a bucket of cold water?
That means whatever slim hope London has of landing the Argonauts, even for a few years, would come only after the league managed to find new owners for the team. There are groups interested in purchasing the Argos, but only if a new stadium is built in the city.
"I believe that there's a lot of people that feel the Argos are best placed in Toronto," said Gillies.
...
"I can only tell you again that most people believe the Argos belong in Toronto," said Gillies.
He would know.He had the goods last week when the rumours had the National Lacrosse League's Ottawa Rebels moving to London. As an owner of the team, he said it wasn't going to happen.
It didn't.
So, when he says most people want the Argos to stay in Toronto, you can probably take it to the bank that the CFL will exhaust all options before considering moving the Argos.
