New Pardigm for Trade Credit - [Cached Version]
Published on: 6/1/2000    Last Visited: 2/6/2002

On-line marketplaces, by making trade credit more visible and explicit, will make it more efficient, predicts Perry Gillies, managing director for e-business at GE Capital Commercial Finance. And he argues that making credit efficient won't stop with the on-line markets."If you are a corporate credit manager and your company is using two different channels with two trade credit models, you will notice which works better and look for ways to spread that model across both channels," he explains.

    ...
Gillies agrees that there will always be times when companies, to get a profitable sale, will extend credit to a buyer that a third-party wouldn't touch, and such deals will continue to be done off-line."To get an order, sales departments will sometimes argue for an irrational credit decision and get corporate backing. This silly stuff will still be done.If the profit margin is high enough, a lucrative sale may trump a good credit decision."
