In the article, Fr. Gilbert illustrates the antiphons one by one.He demonstrates their extremely rich references to the texts of the Old Testament.And he points out one special feature: the last three antiphons include some expressions that can be explained only in the light of the New Testament.

Fr. Maurice Gilbert, researcher at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Jerusalem, concludes that Jesus was therefore probably born six or seven years before the official Christian era.

It is not only the date of Christ's birth that is in doubt, but also the place.As far as Christians are concerned, the Virgin Mary gave birth to the Son of God in the village of Bethlehem, in Judea, about 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem.

But another tradition says he was born in Mary's house next to the Church of Anunciation, in Nazareth.Gilbert is one of the many researchers who believe that the biblical text and the 2,000-year - old tradition are correct in placing the birth in a cave beneath Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity.
