Spencer Gilbert has practiced commercial law in Jackson for 36 years, more than 24 of which have been with Wise Carter Child & Caraway.He practices primarily in the areas of general business and commercial law; commercial litigation; banking and bankruptcy; and commercial transactions.
Mr. Gilbert graduated from Vanderbilt University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1963) and from George Washington University Law School (J.D. with distinction, 1967).He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and he holds an honorary degree from Tougaloo College (LL.D, 1992).
Mr. Gilbert is a member of the Mississippi and Virginia Bars and has been admitted in Mississippi since 1967.He is also a member of the American Bar Association and has served as a member of ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants.He has also served as chairman of the board of Hinds County Legal Services and as president of the Mississippi Opera Association.He is a member of the American Law Institute, a Fellow in the Mississippi Bar Foundation, and a member of the board of directors of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights under Law.He is the author of "Observations on Uniform Commercial Code Article 9: Mississippi's First Five Years," 44 Mississippi Law Journal 208 (1973).He is included in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America 2007, for Commercial Litigation and was selected a Mid-South SUPER LAWYER for 2006 in the area of Business/Corporate.
