Karen Gibbard has recently graduated with distinction from her studies with Richard Simpson (oboe) and Gail Hennessy (baroque oboe) on the MMus Oboe Performance - Orchestral Training course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, generously supported by the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust and the Mercers' Company.

Karen also receives period instrument coaching through the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique course at the Abbaye aux Dames in France, which includes tuition with Paul Dombrecht and Marcel Ponseele.

In 2007 Karen graduated from the University of Leeds with a first class BMus Honours degree and the top music degree mark in the year.
This course entailed a compulsory Erasmus year at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica "E.
F. Dall'Abaco" in Verona, Italy.
Prior to that, she studied at Trinity College of Music junior department, where she was awarded the Cassal Prize for Woodwind and the David Taylor Memorial Prize.
Karen has performed in a variety of solo, chamber and orchestral settings.
These have included solo oboe recitals as part of Leeds International Concert Season, Dartington International Summer School and at St. Mary-at-Hill Church in London, as well as baroque oboe concertos with Essex Baroque Orchestra, the Company of Musicians, Guildhall Baroque Orchestra, and the Ashford Baroque Ensemble.
She co-leads and plays oboe in the Kariosa Ensemble's ‘Chamber Tots' concerts and workshops at the Wigmore Hall and is baroque oboist in the Prince and Pauper Consort, which is participating in the Early Music Live!
Scheme organised by Brighton Early Music Festival.
Karen's oboe/cor anglais orchestral engagements have included performances with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, University of Leeds Philharmonia, Guildhall Opera Orchestra, Guildhall Soloist Orchestra, The Rehearsal Orchestra, Adoramus Orchestra, Bartholdy Chamber Orchestra and at the New York Carnegie Hall as a member of the Orchestra of the Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza, Italy.
On baroque oboe she has performed with the Gabrieli Players, Essex Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra of the Baroque Armonico Consort, Dartington Baroque Orchestra, Linden Baroque, Leeds Baroque Orchestra, The Creakes International Baroque Sinfonia, Guildhall Baroque Orchestra and the Suffolk Baroque Players.
