Hossein GhassemiHossein Ghassemi joined the Case Advanced Power Institute at Case Western Reserve University in September 2003 as a Senior Research Associate.Dr. Ghassemi worked as a research scientist at Virginia Tech where he conducted several projects to develop new proton exchange membrane (PEM)-based fuel cells material systems. These projects were supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).Dr. Ghassemi's primary research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of polymeric membranes, which will be used to develop new proton conducting approaches involving high temperature hydrogen and direct methanol fuel cells.Dr. Ghassemi is now seeking new approaches for maintaining the proton conductivity of the PEMs at high temperatures, which is extremely vital to the success of this burgeoning technology.Dr. Ghassemi obtained his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from McGill University in June 1994.His Ph.D. studies involved the synthesis of a new class of polymides which can be used at very high temperatures as structural materials and for electrical insulation in automobiles, in the aerospace industry, as well as many other vital applications.Dr. Ghassemi likes to spend his spare time with his family and friends. He plays volleyball and loves camping.
