    George Georgeff said.

Highland police would not release the incident report and would not confirm the name of the officer because no charges have been filed and because it still is under investigation, Georgeff said.

Georgeff said a woman filed a report at the Highland police station Wednesday morning. She indicated some things were taken from her, and she had bite marks and minor scratches resulting from an incident Wednesday morning at Corker's Tavern & Grill, 9500 Indianapolis Blvd.

The woman gave police the name of the man whom she said caused the injuries and told Highland police he was an officer in East Chicago. Highland police advised the East Chicago Police Department of the incident, and its administration is aware, Georgeff said.

HIGHLAND - George Georgeff, one of three town employees running for office in November, is calling for a town ethics law.

Georgeff, a police officer and town councilman running for re-election, has proposed the formation of a committee to study the need for an ethics ordinance and how to craft it.

"I think people will feel more confident if an ordinance is in place and they know there's no hidden agenda.I think an ordinance can not only help us but be a model for other towns," Georgeff said.
    ...
But Georgeff said he's interested in imposing a standard ethics code on not just elected officials, but also appointed ones.

"Any ordinance has to be comprehensive and address potential conflicts in business dealings and unions, and not just focus on town employees," Georgeff said.

He said the size of the committee hasn't been set but he'd like to see selection for it in October

"I'd like to serve on it if possible.I'm open-minded," Georgeff said, adding that professors who've studied ethics and philosophy would be included as well as lay constituents.

Veteran police officer George Georgeff, who is going for his fourth term on the council, said holding the line on town spending will be a paramount concern in the coming four years.

Georgeff has been publicly chastised for voting on police matters such as controversial raises and disciplinary actions despite his position on the force.

But his 22 years on the police force has provided him valuable insight and a list of accomplishments to tout, Georgeff said.

"One of the first things that I did on the council was lead the charge to ban alcohol in our parks," he said.

Georgeff has been active in anti-gang school programs and was the school's "Officer Friendly" for 16 years. He is currently chairman of the Lake County Solid Waste District and a member of the Lake County Mental Health Association.
