Dr. Gelrud is a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela. Dr. Gelrud completed his Internal Medicine Residency, Chief Residency and Gastro-enterology Fellowship from Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Gelrud completed a Research Fellowship at the Brigham & Woman's Hospital of the Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Since 2001, Dr. Gelrud has been an Assistant Clinical Professor of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He is the Director of Interventional Endoscopy at Jacobi Medical Center and is an Endoscopic Ultrasound attending at Montefiore Medical Center.

Dr. Gelrud's main interests are GI oncology, biliary endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of the abdomen and mediastinum. Dr. Gelrud has extensive experience in the staging of lung, esophageal, rectal and pancreatic cancer, also expertise in the work up of pancreatic cysts and EUS-guided celiac plexus neurolysis for severe cancer-related abdominal pain.
