"Currently, my main tasks are generating support material for the shift operations managers on shift.I'm also involved in two projects, one being the 'Commitment to Consistency' programme, a scheme to improve the mills working practices, and another project to develop the performance management process within the mill."
"A shift manager is expected to have good communication skills," Andrew says, adding that you also need diplomacy skills, a quick problem-solving mind and an ability to motivate people.
Andrew attended an M-academy GRIP (growing in international performance) course, an internal training programme.It was spread over seven months and involved working in multi-national teams.
"It was very enjoyable, although the workload was quite heavy.It provided an opportunity to visit different mills throughout Europe and led to a better understanding of how other M-real mills work."
At work, Andrew is driven by results - at both the personal and mill levels.He thinks it's always encouraging to hear good news about the performance of the mill and he enjoys it when a lot of people benefit from his work.
