AMY GEDDES

Amy Geddes
One of many articles we have written on our tutor Amy appeared as a profile in 24/7 Scottish Music:
Amy Geddes is undoubtedly one of the most in demand tutors in workshops around the country. She has worked extensively with Stow College, Glasgow Fiddle workshop, Feisan Nan Gaidheal and Fife Council. She now travels from her home base in Edinburgh to Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop in Argyll to teach, and has been instrumental in setting up and running their schools programme as part of the Scottish Youth Music Initiative Scheme, as well as being fully involved with the ALP Scots Music Group. As a composer she is well respected and sought after.

It cannot be said that Amy and Sandy stick to a rigid repertoire.Far from it.Half the time Sandy doesn't know what is going to come next, and Amy mischievously changes the keys without warning, usually followed within a half beat by Sandy.
...
At Ardrishaig Sandy retaliated by constantly changing keys within the tune itself, forcing Amy to follow him in a madcap rendition. Both are such consummate virtuosi that they make this look easy—and it amuses the audience no end, particularly a musically-informed audience such as the Mid Argyll Arts members. The audience are never sure what is coming next - but the end result was emphatic.Everyone left with an enormous grin on their faces, yet knowing they had been treated to a technically supreme display.Sandy and Amy are a great combination.
...
Amy has matured into one of the most driving and exciting fiddlers in Scotland. When she plays her whole body is in continuous movement to the rhythm, and her bowing marks out insistent beats that gets any audience tapping their feet!

As Amy and Sandy walked into the Village Hall, a storm of cheers and clapping broke out-and that was before they played.
...
Amy and Sandy have just produced a new cd, called "Over the Sky to See" and it features many of their own new compositions, mixed with traditional golden oldies and "The Loch Goil Collection": a set of tunes composed by Goil afficionado Henry Maughan in the middle decades of the 20th century.
...
The cd is also a very personal work for Amy and Sandy, in that it features compositions, written, in the way of traditional tunes, to commemorate people they love, or at the request of others for special occasions and special people.
...
Amy took herself off to the bottom of the garden (in Lochgoilhead, as it happened), and reappeared later with a wonderful tune called "Chateauneuf du Pape", which may have had something to do with what she had been drinking at the time, as a present for Ann.

Amy occasionally shouts out the key to him in the preceding bar, but she also enjoys making him guess what she's going to do next-not easy as one of her trademarks is unexpected key changes.
