  Alan joined Highland Council in September 1998 as Director of Finance.He is a qualified member of CIPFA and has previously worked in Stirling Council, Central Regional Council, Wiltshire Council and Newcastle Upon Tyne at various stages in his career.
  
  Within his role he also has responsibility for Procurement and Risk Management.In addition he is the Treasurer of the Police Board, Fire Board and Joint Valuation Board as well as Treasurer of the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.
  
  He has been involved in a variety of CIPFA groups over the years and has also served as a CIPFA P3 examiner.He is a past chairman of Directors of Finance in Scotland and is currently a member of the CIPFA Local Government Policy Panel
