Hollis GaussHollis Gauss, Director of Education (Youth & Family), was raised in Massachusetts, and her formal Jewish education began at Congregation Beth El in Sudbury and was supplemented by many summers at Camp Ramah in New England, both as a camper and on staff.Following her graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a B.A. in American History, Hollis worked for Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and at the Hillel International Center in Washington, DC.Hollis completed a Master of Management degree in human services at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management and a Master of Arts degree in Jewish Communal Service at the Hornstein Program, both at Brandeis University.

Hollis has been at B'nai Jeshurun since June, 2001, where she has worked in all the areas of the Youth & Family Education Department: children's services, family programming, b'nai mitzvah, teens, and the Hebrew School.Hollis is the product of a Hebrew School education and knows first-hand how it can shape emerging Jewish identities.She is excited to work in partnership with BJ's staff, rabbinic and lay leadership to make Hebrew School an even richer, more vibrant place.

Hollis knows well the value of long-range planning, patience, endurance, hard work and seeing things through: her beloved Red Sox finally become World Champions in 2004, and Hollis, long a triathlete and marathoner, completed her first Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid this past summer.Hollis is married to Ari Gauss, who is a fundraiser at the the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Hollis Gauss has been educating Jewish children and their families for more than fifteen years, beginning part time as a Hebrew School teacher and camp counselor, and growing into a full-time career.Her own Jewish education began at Congregation Beth El in Sudbury, Massachusetts, and was supplemented by many summers at Camp Ramah in New England.Hollis holds masters degrees in Human Services Management and Jewish Communal Service, both from Brandeis University.Prior to coming to JCP, Hollis was the Director of Education at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun in Manhattan.

Hollis believes that Jewish education is a lifelong journey, and that every person takes turns learning and teaching as we make our way along our individual paths.She is committed to making JCP a place that celebrates the unique gift that each member of the community brings to the table, and welcomes every person as they are.

Hollis knows well the value of long-term planning, hard work, and patience.She learned these lessons through many winless years as a Red Sox fan, and they have served her well as a marathoner and Ironman triathlete.
