Meanwhile, Georgia Power Co. crews were trying to restore service to the hardest-hit areas, including Morgan and Greene counties, where 1,300 customers remained without electricity as of 12:30 p.m. today, Georgia Power spokeswoman Linda Gantt said.There were 6,000 customers without power in Clayton County, south of Atlanta, she said. Repair crews worked throughout the night to restore power in scattered areas of Athens, Winder, Hartwell and Gainesville, according to Gantt, who said contract workers had arrived from southern Georgia to assist beleaguered utility employees. "The folks who worked all night are at home resting, and fresh crews are out there right now," Gantt said.
