Mayor Mike Gallant says pigeon droppings are becoming a health concern.

His council has concluded that the birds must be culled, so Gallant is going to the province to ask for an exemption to regulations regarding the use of guns within town limits.

The town council has tried traps and noisemakers, but they haven't helped.

Gallant is expecting a conservation officer to come and perform the cull in the next few days, if the provincial government allows the firearm exemption.

They don't expect to get rid of all the birds, but he hopes they get rid of enough to give people of Georgetown some peace.
