As for Marisa Gaggino, who lives in Royal Oak, she continues to ferret out the funkiest new finds, adding to her considerable collection of architectural artifacts (columns, fences, windows).

Metal letters and commercial furniture (desks, storage units, laboratory tables) sell well at Marisa Gaggino's space, Architectural Artifacts.
"What's hot right now is anything metal or iron, from commercial office desks to medical cabinets and tables," she says."I just acquired from Schoolcraft College a collection of metal laboratory tables, and I also bought some Simmons Beautyrest metal motel furniture -- they manufacture more than mattresses, you know."Gaggino spruces up the gun metal items with a wire wheel brush and then lacquers them for a handsome finish."It's a fresh, new, modern look that mixes well with antiques," says Gaggino, adding that the look especially appeals to single men who like the "space age, Jetson feel."There is a special feel to the Heritage Co.II building, too, which is located a stone's throw from the Grand Trunk Railroad tracks."Originally, this was the Lawson Lumber building, built in the 1920s," Gaggino says.
