"Lesson learned," Gaffney told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution."We hate that this happened. But it's an opportunity to do some things differently, to do some new and innovative things, and take a leadership role in terms of how we begin to deal with the whole issue of homophobia."

"I think that's premature," said Gaffney, the dean of student services."The investigation is ongoing, and that certainly hasn't been proven."

Gaffney said he had "no knowledge" of Love's sexual orientation.

"I don't think gay students would feel unwelcome here," he said.

Neither members of Safe Space nor a faculty advisor could be reached for comment by press time.
