Board of Education President Ed Gaesser said prerequisite skills for the next superintendent are leadership and vision.The person also should be good with long-term planning and curriculum development.

"You don't want to rock the boat, but you want to make sure things are done in a timely manner," Gaesser said.

A national search yielded about 30 applicants.The next superintendent will oversee a $3.7 million capital project that voters approved earlier this month.

District officials did not get many responses to a survey about their thoughts for the next boss, Gaesser said.An open forum on the topic was lightly attended, he said.

"With Kendall, if things go well, people seem satisfied," he said."We're a well-run school district, and people seem to be happy with it."

For example, Gaesser said, the district has continued to update its technology and has ranked high among New York state districts for achievement versus dollars spent.
