A househelp yesterday told a Makadara court that she stole her employer's one-year-old daughter because she had refused to pay her salary.

Monica Kanana said after constantly reminding her employer, Ms Alice Wanjiku, to pay her, she decided on the action because her employer was ignoring her.

She said all she wanted was her money and she did not mean any harm to the child.

Kanana told Resident Magistrate Mrs Edna Nyaloti she took the child to Meru where she knew that Wanjiku would easily trace her.

She was giving her testimony after the Magistrate ruled that she had a case to answer.
