Fujimoto is working to get representatives around campus to be on the committee.
The committee that Fujimoto is coordinating will include members of the equal opportunity and affirmative action committee and the gay, lesbian and transgender committee, which his predecessor established.
"If we don't have enough student representation, it's something I will raise. We obviously need student representation on something like that," Fujimoto said.
Fujimoto noted that a student raised the issue of curriculum at an open forum.
"Theoretically, if we're doing a good job around dividing multicultural perspectives in our curriculum, then we don't have incidents like this happening," Fujimoto said."Student activism is very important. The students being aware and active is important to the culture, education, life of the campus. It keeps the climate healthy.I want to encourage students to stay active. It's easy to become complainant."Fujimoto also looked at the curriculum and the diversity that faculty and staff bring to campus.
"I was pretty impressed with the student response [to the Oct. 11 blackface incident].I had heard mixed things about how activist the student body was here.I was impressed that so many students were willing to speak out.I was impressed by the depth of their understanding of the issue," Fujimoto said.
Fujimoto is working with the police in tracking and documenting the hate e-mail that Dr. Leonard Morgan received Nov. 5 to make sure people know that messages of that type are not acceptable in the university setting.
