Once I was inside, curator Corinne Chun Fujimoto guided me past the reception room, which featured haunting portraits of two young ali'i, painted in 1825 by Robert Dampier; and the music room, where Lili'uokalani's koa grand piano occupied its traditional place of honor.

Washington Place curator Corinne Chun Fujimoto said that when Lili'uokalani was a princess, and later queen, mele, or songs, were chanted by her retainers the evening before her birthday.
