"Many athletes, coaches and therapists suggest that soft-tissue therapy is capable of increasing the recovery rate of an exercised-damaged muscle," said Gini Frisby, an exercise physiologist with Hillcrest Lifestyle & Exercise Programs at Hillcrest Medical Center.Frisby is also the trainer for this year's celebrity runners Casey Norton, "Six in the Morning" co-anchor for KOTV, channel 6, and Felicia Collins Correia, executive director of Domestic Violence Intervention Services.

Frisby added that delayed onset muscle soreness is a frequent problem after unaccustomed exercise, for instance, a long race.
"It usually lasts about 96 hours and rarely develops into a chronic condition requiring medical attention," she said.
