Tellumat has investigated a number of existing technologies designed to counter SPIT, but has found none that do the job really well, he adds.

Friedman explains further that "this particular product gives us three distinct applications: firstly as mentioned the GSM enterprise PBX which is integrated into the traditional TDM or IP PBX; secondly there is the operator infill configuration allowing us to help the cellphone operators to greatly reduce the cost of entry in terms of providing cellphone coverage in those areas where previously the business case may not have made financial sense - this will allow the operators to more successfully meet their social upliftment obligations as well as provide coverage to closed user, business or community groups; finally the GSM island configuration allows for the creation of closed cellphone communities with links back into other networks or infrastructures using IP as a carrier over any supporting infrastructure, ie satellite."
