Dr. Friedman was born at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, Louisiana.After attending the first years of education in New Orleans, he moved with his family to Texas and graduated from Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas.He returned to New Orleans to attend Tulane University graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 1968.
Dr. Friedman graduated from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1976 and in the interim, in 1975, he earned a Masters degree in Health Service Administration from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
After completing a neurology internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Dr. Friedman trained in a neurology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.He completed a full tour of duty in the U.S. Navy serving as the neurologist to the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute and the Naval Aerospace Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Florida.After finishing his active duty, Dr. Friedman returned to New Orleans in his solo private practice of neurology for the next 24 years.He served on the active and courtesy staff of most of the hospitals in Orleans and St. Tammany Parishes at various points in his career.He served as president of the medical staff of Mercy Hospital.He is an assistant professor (gratis) in the department of neurology at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Dr. Friedman married Devie Scheinuk from Metairie, Louisiana and they have two (adult) children.His son graduated from Brown University and completed his medical school from LSUHSC in 2007.His daughter is a graduate of George Washington University.Dr. Friedman's outside interests include snow skiing, reading, fishing, and painting.He joined SNC in March, 2007.He has practiced general neurology for more than 25 years.
