"One out of ten children is at risk from undiagnosed vision problems," says Dr. Jan Frederickson, coordinator of the InfantSEE program for FAMILY EYE CARE WEST (FECW)."That is why FECW encourages parents to include a trip to the optometrist in the list of well-baby check-ups.Assessments at six to twelve months of age can determine healthy development of vision.Early detection of eye conditions is the best way to ensure your child has health vision for successful development - now and in the future."Janice B Frederickson, O.D. is an AOA, Vision Source, and POA (Pennsylvania Optometric Association) member who has practiced in the Hempfield area for over 10 years and is involved in many programs as this.
The InfantSEE Program offers parents who otherwise might not be able to afford a comprehensive eye exam for their child, the opportunity to have one performed at no cost to them.
Dr. Frederickson explains the benefits of the InfantSEE program:
* Provides no-cost access to an eye-care doctor who has the instruments and resources not available to general-care doctors like pediatricians and family physicians.
* Detects potential problems that, if undetected, may lead to learning and developmental issues later.
* Gives parents the peace of mind that their infant's vision is developing properly."The potential benefits of this program can be enormous," says Dr Frederickson.

"At the present time, there are many POA optometrists enrolled to participate in the InfantSEE program," says Dr Frederickson, "and the POA hopes to able to offer a no-cost exam for every infant whose parents request one."
