Original founder and leader, trombonist Alan Frederickson, welcomed us all, and read a letter of congratulations from fellow-founder and pianist, Bill Murray, presented by the band's first manager, Ed Grogan.
    ...
Trading on banjo was Rory Thomas with Johnny Montagnese sitting in on drums, and Eric Staffeldt joined or relieved Frederickson with his delicious tromboning.
    ...
To quote Alan, "Like all other great performers there is a charity for which we play.Gumperson's Disease.
    ...
Staffeldt stood in for, or joined, Frederickson and John Bredenberg and Roger Campbell joined or substituted for Acker on reeds.
    ...
They were: Ed Grogan, first manager, Susie Gentry, wife of leader Clark, Jeannie Peterson, who with her husband Harney originally put the band together, Mark Janicki, once clarinetist, trombonist and money manager, Juanita Greenwood, long-time companion of Frederickson and founder of Summit Jazz, Duane Sutfin, past manager, Bill and Betty Holcomb, and Hank Troy, present pianist and secretary of the Queen City Jazz Foundation.

Alan Frederickson, founder of the QCJB, will be returning to Denver for the weekend. He will lead the band at our night at the old Mon-Vue.He will be sure to play his trombone, sing some songs and "read from the word" just as he did in the old days. But don't worry if you can't get into that event, because you can hear Alan and all the alumni we can muster at both the Saturday cabaret and Sunday concert. As we go to press, the following alumni (and friends) are confirmed: Alan Frederickson, Jim Calm, Lance Christensen, Ed Turner, Dave Moldenhauer, Jeanne Peterson, Jon Wiegardt, Lance Acker, Lindy Scialla, Mark Flory, Maurie Walker, Mike Whited, Ray Leake, Ron Hanscom, Wes Mix, John Montagnese, Steve Bauman, Ed Grogan, and Lou Ordelheide.

    Alan Frederickson Jazz Ensemble

ALAN FREDERICKSON JAZZ ENSEMBLE Denver, CO. This group has been a part of Summit Jazz from its inception, having been selected initially as representing the best of Colorado trad jazz. Since that time its subsequent and continuing inclusion has endured due to audience appreciation and its fresh approach to OKOM.* The band exudes a gleeful enjoyment of collective improvisation which is contagious. The leader of this group has been a moving force in the development of trad jazz in Colorado since his arrival in 1954. As band spokesman, his laconic wit is infectious.

In 2002, Frederickson moved to Port Townsend, Washington.
