Pamela Franklin of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explained the Methane-to-Markets Partnership, a global methane emissions reduction effort which brings together public and private sector partners in 28 countries with the aim of achieving annual reductions of 180 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by the year 2015.
These reductions will be achieved in four sectors - coal mining, oil and gas systems, landfills, and agriculture - through technical assistance programs (e.g., support for project development through feasibility and pre-feasibility studies), training and capacity-building, and other activities.
