Frankel makes writing, reading, and learning a fun and exciting process. He is wise, funny, and loves to share his knowledge with a listening ear.White Noise is now one of my favorite books and is enjoyable reading. He lets you write about stuff that you want to write about so it is enjoyable.I learned more about writting in the his condensed 6 week summer course than I had in all of highschool.Dont miss out on this outstanding academic professor.

Professor Frankel cares very much about his students and is willing to meet with them several times if needed to help them develop their ideas for their papers. The book that we read, "All Consuming Images," was very relevant to today's style and image-obsessed culture, and we had some pretty interesting class discussions about topics that related to this.He talks a lot about writing style and encourages you to experiment with your own style in each of your papers. He also gives you ample time to complete each paper - rough draft and final draft - and is willing to reduce the workload if you honestly think it's too much, which it wasnt't.Overall, a great professor, and I would recommend him to anyone who needs to take English 3 as the Writing I requirement.I've also heard great things about his English 100W class.Take his class if you get a chance.

Prof Frankel respects the different writing styles different people have, and he focused a lot on the style and tone of your papers. The book he chose for the class "Whitenoise" was also one of my favorite books in college so far.Of course, as everyone else has mentioned, he is very reachable. This is because his office is in Covel (He's in charge of the ESL and composition tutorial in Covel).Oh and just one more thing, if you take his class in the morning, make sure you don't bring "fried potato" to class, cause he'll definitely joke about it...
Review posted on 12/12/2001 at 10:17:28 PMCourse(s) Taken: Eng Comp 100W Fall 2001Professor Frankel is by far the best English professor that I have ever had. This man makes writing a truly enjoyable experience rather then a chore. He is always around for help and is genuinely concerned about us as students. He goes out of his way to make appointments with each and every one us for all our papers and tell us to e-mail him anytime we have a question...that is GREAT.I would highly, highly recommend him to anyone looking to take an English Comp class because you won't regret it.
Review posted on 7/28/2001 at 5:30:36 PMCourse(s) Taken: eng 3Because I hated English, I dreaded going to 2-hour English lectures. However, Frankel made the lectures very interesting, reading about advertisements and the America's pop-culture.I found myself looking forward to going to class. He was always available to look over your paper.

Review posted on 6/10/2001 at 4:20:01 AMEnglish 131D with Professor Frankel is probably one of the best classes offered at UCLA.Professor is truly an asset that we should all appreciate here at our school. He is really funny and nice, and cares so much about his students. He will meet with you before each paper is due and so there is NO reason every person shouldn't get an A in this class. The assignments are so fun, even a neuro-sci major would love writing!Professor is soooo respectful of his students, and really treats us like we're adults with our own lives. He helps foster everyones own style of writing rather than insisting on some structure or style that some teachers are stuck to.Overall, he is a great guy, and his class is a lot of fun!I would take it again just for fun and recommend anyone who wants an easy A YET fulfilling course take it
Review posted on 6/6/2001 at 12:02:01 AMTake this class!!YOu will not regret it.Prof. Frankel is always available to get help from. he is approachable and really cares about the students. His English class is probably in the top two I have ever taken at UCLA.He helps to develp each of his student's individual style. My writing have improved many times over just from his comments on my writing. He is fun and chooses stories to read that are unusual and sometimes offbeat. He is a wonderful teacher who will teach you a ton about writing!
Review posted on 4/5/2001 at 2:14:19 PMProfessor Frankel teaches students not only to write effectively, but to THINK effectively. His concern for student learning exceeds that of any professor I have encountered at UCLA.His lectures and discussions are unique, informative, and engaging.Take his class. He will expand your mind.
Review posted on 3/13/2001 at 1:32:40 PMEffective, concerned and enthusiastic.I really enjoyed his class despite the fact that I got a B in his class.I hate English but he made the "experience" less painful than it could have been.
