   Yet on Saturday, September 6, 2003 Frank let viewers into his world at the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) tradeshow in San Diego, California.
   
   Frank is the cofounder and principal designer at Paul Frank Industries, a worldwide fashion phenomenon that creates unique designs in everything from pajamas to couches.Frank demonstrated his talents to onlookers at ASR when he sewed his company's famous icon, Julius the Monkey, onto a vinyl wallet on his original Singer sewing machine.
   
   Sitting inside a custom-manufactured glass enclosure (with air holes, of course), Frank entertained a crowd of fans with his skills as an outstanding fashion craftsman.First he cut out a template of Julius on a piece of vinyl.Next he cut numerous vinyl squares in a variety of sizes and sewed them together to make the wallet.To finish his creation, he added his mascot.After loud applause, he raffled off this newly created bill-catcher to a lucky winner in the crowd.
   
   Paul Frank with an almost finished Julius wallet.Brain Bailey, who is in charge of print media for Paul Frank, said that Frank started his business by sewing a monkey on a wallet for his girlfriend.Then it happened that her brother wanted one, and her brother's girlfriend ... and the rest is history."There are many people who don't know that there is a real, live Paul Frank.We wanted to show people that Paul Frank is not just the brand name, but he is a person," says Bailey."We wanted to show the public how the company first started: with Paul Frank sitting at a Singer sewing machine, making gifts for his friends."Much of Paul Frank's company's success is based upon the eccentric world of his imagination.Paul Frank's motto is "The day that we stop making ourselves laugh is the day we aren't having fun anymore."So for those of you who think sitting in a fish-bowl environment, crafting accessories for onlookers, sounds tedious, remember: Paul thinks it's fun
