Marvelli Gallery is pleased to present Search, the third New York solo exhibition by German artist Andrea Frank.
The show will be on view from April 23 through May 22.
The exhibition features a new series of large-scale gelatin silver print photographs depicting people climbing trees.
Using a known technique (contre-plongée) often utilized by Bauhaus photographers to capture points of view of buildings from below, Frank employs it with great effect to create moody and emotional sky-scapes, where trunks and limbs of trees are reaching for the sky.
With this singular approach to her photographic compositions, Frank's gaze and camera are turned upward to capture the visual merging of the bodies embracing the trees, their extremities and branches often indistinguishable.
