Dr. Francis regularly visited her grandfather and corresponded with him until his death in 1963. In 1994, Dr. Francis published "The Frost Family's Adventure in Poetry: Sheer Morning Gladness at the Brim". This book, now available in paperback as "Robert Frost: An Adventure in Poetry, 1900-1918," brings to life the family's early years in Derry, New Hampshire. It also chronicles their years of living in England, where Frost first achieved recognition as a poet. Besides writing and lecturing about her grandfather, Lesley Francis is co-honorary trustee of the Robert Frost Farm in Derry and a member of the advisory board of "The Robert Frost Review."
Her own life carried her on a journey into the world of Spanish history and literature. After receiving her Ph.D. in Romance Languages from Duke University, she taught at colleges and universities in Virginia and Texas, as well as at the family-owned Escuela de la Tahona, a summer school for high school girls founded by her mother in La Granja, Spain. From 1974 to 1997, she served on the professional staff of the American Association of University Professors in Washington, DC. At Montgomery College, Francis teaches non-credit courses through the Workforce Development and Continuing Education program.
Dr. Francis's talk is sponsored by the Paul Peck Institute for American Culture and Civic Engagement at Montgomery College. -
