Mitchell Fox is a freelance consultant living in San Francisco, CA.His work focuses on serving entrepreneurial startup businesses in the Bay Area.
Career:
Mitch first began consulting for the Monitor Group in June 2004 as an intern in the firm's Cambridge, MA headquarters.He would go on to complete an unusual second internship in Frankfurt, Germany in the summer of 2005 prior to beginning full-time in San Francisco, CA in September of that year.
While in San Francisco, Mitch's work was predominantly related to biotechnology (5 projects) and medical devices (2 projects).He also worked both with New Profit, Inc and Monitor Institute, completing a total of 4 projects with nonprofit clients.
In May 2005, Mitch was permitted to transfer to Monitor's London office on a one-year transfer.He spent three months living and working in London on a due diligence project for Russian clients before beginning a new project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the peak of the Middle Eastern summer.Temperatures frequently over 110 degrees Fahrenheit didn't prevent it from being a phenomenal and life-altering experience.
Finally, after completing a two month project in Johannesburg, South Africa for a consumer products company, Mitch returned to San Francisco, CA to focus his career on working with entrepreneurial startup businesses.
University:
Mitch is a graduate of Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, where he studied International Business and Small Business Management, with a minor in Spanish.While an undergraduate, Mitch also studied abroad twice, at La Universidad de Las Americas in Quito, Ecuador (summer 2002) and El Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico (fall 2003).
From very early in his time at Georgetown, Mitch became deeply involved with Georgetown's Mask and Bauble Dramatic Society.He was an actor, technical director, set designer, and master carpenter over his years working with M&B.He was the Producer of Wit, a powerful drama portraying one professor's struggle with ovarian cancer, in collaboration with Director Isaiah Wooden in spring 2003.
In his second semester at Georgetown, Mitch also entered the world of print journalism, serving as the Senior Photography Editor of The Hoya newspaper in spring 2002.He would later hold the positions of Web Editor, Editorial Board Member, Accounts Manager, Business Director, and Member of the Board of Directors.
After returning from his second semester abroad, Mitch became the Founder and President of Hilltop Consultants, a pro-bono student consulting organization serving nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC.Under his leadership, the organization grew from a mere idea to include more than 30 active members, and to serve four local nonprofits through free consulting projects.Hilltop Consultants would also host Georgetown's first ever undergraduate business case competition, and the only live business case competition to focus on a nonprofit organization in the country, the Business Strategy Challenge.Hilltop Consultants is still active on campus today.
Roots:
An American born in San Jose, California, Mitch spent his elementary school years in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Boulder, Colorado at the age of 10.In Boulder, Mitch became active with the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and participated in a number of high adventure expeditions with Troop 171, including scuba diving in Cozumel, backpacking and sea kayaking in Alaska, and canyon hiking in Northern Arizona.
Mitch was elected the Youth Governor of Colorado in 2000, and represented the State of Colorado at the National Governor's Conference in Washington, DC in spring 2001.Mitch was also an active leader at Fairview High School, serving as Senior Class Vice President.
Interests:
Mitch is passionate about both international travel and living, and has lived on five continents.He is an amateur photographer, and enjoys nearly any activity that allows him to get outdoors.Mitch competed in his first sprint distance triathlon at Treasure Island in San Francisco in November 2006, and his first olympic distance triathlon (the Wildflower) in May 2007.Mitch also swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco in October 2006 in the Annual Escape from the Rock, placing first in his age group.
