PENACOOK - David J. Fournier Sr., 74, died Saturday after a long illness.Born in Penacook, the son of Eugene and Alice (Spaulding) Fournier, he was a resident of Penacook most of his life with the exception of several years in Canaan, Vt., where he worked for Ethan Allen Furniture Co., and several years in Waterbury and Cheshire, Conn., where he worked in the building trade.He returned to New Hampshire in 1962.He was self-employed as a builder for more than 35 years in Boscawen, Penacook and the greater Concord area.In 1946, he enlisted in the Army Air Force, where he was a Radar Mechanic Navigator and was discharged in September 1947.He was in the reserves at Fort Ethan Allen in Winooski, Vt., and the Active Reserves in Canaan, Vt., where he was discharged in 1951.He was a member of the American Legion, Post 31, and a member of the Contoocook Valley Radio Club.As a CB operator, he was known as Simon Legree.He was a ham radio operator for many years W10E.Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Marie; four sons, Lawrence Fournier of Derry, Michael Fournier of Hillsboro, David Fournier Jr. of Salisbury and Arthur Guinard Jr. of Belmont; four daughters, Susan Gregg of Peoria, Ariz., Virginia Jourdenais of Contoocook, Darlene Smith of Penacook and Marie Whiting of Boscawen; three other children he raised, David Fournier III of Salisbury, Peter Fournier of Penacook and Jessica Campbell of Penacook; two sisters, Lucille and Gloria Fournier, both of Penacook; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
