Darlene Fournier is administrative assistant with the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.

She said the response last year from cancer patients to the Spirit Hats was "awesome.

"They're just so astonished that kids actually" cared about them and took the time to make the hats, said Fournier.

Some patients were so moved by the gesture, they made donations to the foundation to pay forward the children's kindness.
