    Benjamin Francis Ford was born in DeSoto, Missouri, in 1901, and grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas.His career in country music began when he joined Otto Gray's Oklahoma Cowboys as emcee and comedian.Later he worked with WLS in Chicago, KWK in St. Louis (where he adopted the name "Duke of Paducah") and the Renfro Valley Barn Dance.For four years he had his own Plantation Party show over NBC Radio.

    From 1942 to 1958, he was a star comedian of the Grand Ole Opry.Here he won millions more fans with his jokes and his famous tag line, "I'm goin' back to the wagon, boys, these shoes are killin' me!"His induction into the Hall of Fame came four months after his death in 1986.
