Gone but not forgotten, John Flynn, the controversial former CEO of the WPB-based South Florida Blood Banks, briefly reappeared in town from his exile in the Georgia countryside this week for a court date.
Flynn, whose love of life's luxuries and alleged mismanagement nearly caused the collapse of the blood distribution system in the area, attended a trial related to his 1998 divorce.According to records, the remarried Flynn stopped paying his $5,000-a-month alimony to his ex-wife of 35 years, Anita.
The reason?After all, Flynn's blood bank salary of $242,000 a year and his $500,000 golden parachute when he left last year raised eyebrows here.But now he reports no income and says he is retired.His new wife, charity fund-raiser Maria, he told the court, supports him , even if his assets total $1.2 million.
"John's above the law," says the ex, who reports a salary as a substitute teacher of $1,000 a year."He doesn't care."
Said Flynn's lawyer, Eddie Stephens: "As you know, Mr. Flynn lost his job last year and has no income.

Flynn now runs the nonprofit Children's World Blood Bank near Atlanta.According to its Web site, Flynn, Maria and former Palm Beach County sheriff-turned-preacher Ed Bieluch are among the group's unpaid volunteers.
