John J Flynn was born November 27, 1878 in Primrose, just outside of Minersville. He started work at the age of eight..in the mines. At the age of 12, while coming home from work, he lost his left leg below the knee when run over by a train. He went back to school for two more terms, but then returned to the mines working at that trade until the age of 23. In 1902 he was elected Justice of the Peace and served that office for 55 years until his death April 16, 1957. He was also the founder and first President of the Minersville Athletic Asociation.
