Mike Fletty
For more than 30 years he has served as a distance measurer at Silver Mine Hill and for the past three years has acted as Chief Measurer.
He has also helped with hill preparation leading up to the annual tournament.
Fletty began jumping as a youngster with the Eau Claire Junior Ski Club and showed much promise.
In his last tournament, he placed third behind future Olympian Jerry Martin in Class III of the Central Junior championships at Little Hendrickson Hill.
He tried other sports in high school and regrets not having followed through as a senior jumper.
"I got back into it to repay the debt I owed those who helped me when I was a kid," he said.
"And I love to see the kids fly down the hill."
A 1967 graduate of North High School, he excelled as a football receiver, baseball pitcher and in gymnastics and he continued as a standout pitcher at UW-Eau Claire, graduating in 1972.
He also pitched for the Twin City Sports semi-pro team.
Fletty, 59, is retired from the Eau Claire Fire Department.
