The Audit Commission has appointed Mark Fletcher as its new regional director for the north of England.
ImageIn his new role Fletcher will lead a team of 500, who work with hundreds of public bodies across the region to ensure billions of pounds of taxpayers' money is spent effectively.
Previously he was a partner at Grant Thornton, most recently leading healthcare consulting for the firm.He was with Robson Rhodes prior to that firm's merger with Grant Thornton, joining in 1994.During that time, he worked closely with the Audit Commission, leading a national study on procurement in NHS trusts and the delivery of more than 20 service inspections delivered by the firm under contract to the Commission.
He has been with the Commission before, working as a performance specialist in the south of England from 1990 to 1994.
He said: "We're here to help raise the standards of financial management, challenge public bodies to deliver better value for money, and promote high standards of governance and accountability.
