Sinead Flannery, having graduated from Glenormiston College with the Advanced Diploma of Equine Management and winning the Horse Management prize, was matter of fact: "You only get out of a course what you put into it, like anything, but if you are willing to put the effort into what you're doing, Glenormiston has everything you need to succeed."
Originally from Western Australia, Sinead had always been interested in a career in the horse industry. In her final year of secondary school she investigated and applied to a number of courses including the Advanced Diploma at Glenormiston. The offer of a scholarship and her love of Victoria made the final decision an easy one.
Sinead said the combination of technical and practical experience put Glenormiston's course ahead of the rest.

The balance between technical and practical is vital to developing a complete understanding, according to Sinead. "You're not just sitting in the classroom all day so you have the opportunity to go out and actually apply what you've learnt. It just makes things fit into place when you can do it that way."
For the second year horse project Sinead completed an industry survey, spending her holidays touring around the Hunter Valley speaking to breeders. She said she intentionally designed this project to enhance her employment prospects. "I spoke to about twenty breeders, top of the industry sort of people that you don't ever dream of having anything to do with. The amount of people that said 'are you looking for work, give us a call next year' was awesome. That was the idea. It got me out talking to as many people as I possibly could."
Sinead now works for a major blood stock sales company, William Inglis and Son Limited, and believes her employer valued what she had learnt in the course.
