    Sean Flannery, SSgA's chief investment officer for the Americas, said active strategies showed strong growth in 2006, helping to boost worldwide institutional assets by nearly 21%.Assets of 130/30 strategies, or "Edge" strategies as they are known at SSgA, ended 2006 at $5.6 billion, up by $4 billion for the year.SSgA's Target Retirement Strategies grew from $2.4 billion to $3.7 billion in 2006.Interest in collateralized debt obligations was strong as interest in ETFs.Even in indexing, Mr. Flannery said, there have been interesting developments, with demand for new indexes that look to exploit specific factors such as the small-cap premium.
