   Flannigan Marks 50th Anniversary in DevelopmentDr. Terry Flannigan, Senior Advisor to the UBC Okanagan Development office, was recognized for his 50 years of service to post-secondary education and development during last Friday's Valley First UBC Okanagan Athletics Scholarship Breakfast.
   
   Dr. Flannigan was appointed Executive Director of Development at UBC Okanagan in November 2004, in advance of the opening of the Kelowna campus in September 2005.An accomplished educator, administrator and fund-raiser, his previous positions include Vice President, External Relations at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton and Associate Vice President, External Relations, at the University of Alberta.
   
   During his tenure at the University of Alberta, Dr. Flannigan headed a five-year campaign that raised $145 million for student awards and capital projects.
   
   Dr. Flannigan has provided exceptional leadership to the development program at UBC Okanagan.Building on the extraordinary $12.5 million gift to UBC Okanagan from Dr. Irving K. Barber, Dr. Flannigan launched the fledgling development program, and has been instrumental in raising many new endowments, scholarships and gifts to usher the Okanagan campus through rapid growth and expansion.

   The banquet also signals a strategic partnership between Kelowna General Hospital Foundation and UBC Okanagan, to build capacity for the medical school expansion at KGH, given Premier Gordon Campbell's announcement of a full service medical school by 2009.
