Flanagan, the daughter of Paul and Cathy Flanagan of Running Springs Rd., was named a National Merit semi-finalist, while Lynds, the daughter of Alida Landry and Keith Lynds of Robie St., received a Letter of Commendation in recognition of her outstanding academic promise.

Flanagan, a National Merit semifinalist, is a member of the National Honor Society, Model U.N., Math Team and is the Maine representative to Junior States of America (a mock Congress).She has served as manager and student director for the GHS Drama Club and is a Girl Scout, assisting with a troop of younger girls.Academic awards include Excellence in Mathematics (sophomore), Wellesley College Book award (junior), and Society of Women Engineers Excellence in Science and Mathematics (junior).Flanagan has applied for an early decision admission to Vassar College, where she plans to major in the social sciences.
