Carol Flanagan is a passionate and proud Green.She believes that the Greens stand out as a party of principle, and that the Greens' core values of sustainable development, social and economic justice, peace and non-violence and grassroots democracy are fundamental to our survival and progress.

Carol is a solicitor and celebrant, who has lived and worked in West Pennant Hills for 20 years.She has four adult children and is married to Jack Flanagan, a Professor of Accounting.

She is a past President of the Corporate Lawyers Association of New South Wales.Currently she works in private practice at The Rocks Practice.One of Carol's purposes when she established her own law firm was to devote more time to community activities.She is currently on the management committees of the Sydney Breast Cancer Foundation and of Dial-A-Mum, a telephone helpline for which she is also a regular telephone volunteer.

Carol was also a breastfeeding counselor for many years, and was a volunteer for the Community Service Network of the AIDS Council, providing practical assistance for people affected by AIDS.She has received awards for her community work from Women in Management and from Compaq.

Within her immediate community, Carol has worked for Neighbourhood Watch, and for several years has served on the committees of the West Pennant Hills Valley Progress Association and the 355 Committee of the West Pennant Hills Valley Community Centre.

Carol understands the needs of businesses, having been a corporate lawyer for more than 20 years.She is a past President of the Corporate Lawyers Association and has also been head of corporate legal departments in both public and private sector organizations.She is a former General Counsel of the Commonwealth Government's Export Finance and Insurance Corporation.

Carol is the author of several publications in the areas of International Trade and Business Law and has also lectured and prepared courses for The University of New England, The University of Technology Sydney, The College of International Business and The Australian Institute of Export.
