    Gordon T. Filmer-Bennett

    Eastsound , Wash.

    Gordon Thomas Filmer-Bennett died Thursday , May 29 , 2001 , in Anacortes.He was 86.

    Filmer-Bennett was born June 4 , 1914 , in New Westminster , B.C. , and grew up in the Vancouver , B.C. , area.He attended the University of British Columbia , where he earned bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees.

    During World War II , Filmer-Bennett joined the Radiosonde Unit of the Canadian Meteorological Service and served in several remote outposts.After the war he attended Indiana University and the University of Pittsburgh , where he obtained a doctorate in clinical psychology in 1951.From 1958 until 1960 , he worked at the University of Portland as an associate professor of psychology.In 1960 , he moved to Wisconsin where he held board and faculty positions for many years.

    In 1979 , he retired from the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services and moved to Vancouver , where he lived for 10 years while helping establish the Oregon Graduate School of Professional Psychology in Portland.In 1980 , he joined the staff at Providence Medical Center in Portland and from 1981 until 1989 , served as a board member and consultant for the Columbia Pastoral Counseling Center in Vancouver.

    Throughout his career he also maintained a private practice in clinical psychology.

    Filmer-Bennett was awarded many honors during his career.He was also a life member of the American Psychological Association , the Canadian Psychological Association , the Society of Sigma Xi and the Wisconsin , Oregon and Washington Psychological Associations.

    Filmer-Bennett moved to Eastsound on Orcas Island in 1989.

    Survivors include his wife , Arjean , at ; one daughter , Arllys of Eastsound ; and one sister , Doris Gregory of Vancouver , B.C.

    A private memorial service was June 9 at the Victorian Chapel on Orcas Island.
