In a closed meeting with Jason Ferraro of Ferraro Design, he showed me a prototype of a device that could possibly change the direction that console developers take their games.
You may already be familiar with The Claw, a gadget that Ferraro Design has released for PC gamers to use while playing games that require more control and comfort than a simple mouse and keyboard setup.Using an ultra comfortable mouse-like device that molds to the contours of your hand, The Claw has buttons at the convenience of your fingertips hat makes gameplay fun and easy over the use of a customary keyboard.Though this concept may at first seem to have no relevance towards console gaming, you may be pleasantly surprised.Ferraro now hopes to expand their reach and develop a custom version of The Claw for their favorite console-the Xbox.
While using a design very similar to that of the PC version, The Claw for the Xbox uses a combination of a hand molded device and a mouse that would be ideal for first person shooter games such as Halo and the upcoming Unreal Championship. The design allows for the gamer to comfortably place The Claw in his or her lap while placing the arms slightly in front. The prototype device consists of a Claw on the left hand side of the rig that will have buttons for basic motor movements (forward, backward, strafe left/right) and all of the Xbox face button commands. On the right side of the setup is a mouse for looking around in your environments and firing first and secondary weapons.
Here is a button by button break down of the controller:
