James Ferraro

His brother James Ferraro, a sculptor and illustrator, is a frequent collaborator and contributed to several of the pieces in this issue of Rare. "He brings kind of a different style," Ferraro said."When we work on a project together, if one of us has a basic concept, he bounces it off the other one, and if we like it, we just see what from our specific backgrounds we can contribute to it and it just evolves from there."

In addition to working on his own projects, Ferraro works with a group of artists that go by the name of Gat5.

James Ferraro is an illustrator and sculptor based out of East Austin, TX. James is amused by petty vandalism and appreciates the inconvenience of trains to spot traveling graffiti. He enjoys steak and eggs the morning after all art shows. He can't get enough Mad Max and still reads comic books. James loves picking through scrap yards, searching for the perfect found object. James finds the tackiness of the early nineties as a direct result from the grossness of the eighties humorous.

James Ferraro, GAT5 co-founder, is currently attending Texas State with a focus on illustration and metal sculpture.Ferraro's illustrative pieces depict introspective views into his interior as an artist.The work features solitary figures with words and phrases while concentrating on stylized realism stemming from life drawing studies.Ferraro's sculptures are freestanding and relief work that consist of recycled steel and found objects.
